Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

Queensland Rail has an opportunity for a permanent full time Senior Mechanical Engineer within our Rollingstock Project Engineering team. 

The team’s primary responsibility is to provide technical support, guidance, and management for rollingstock projects. This includes offering safety and operational advice to Rollingstock Maintenance, Rollingstock Engineering, and other stakeholders. The projects cover all aspects related to the introduction, operation, modification, and maintenance of rollingstock and associated equipment.

Overview of the role:

  • Provide technical coordination and advice, review design and overhaul documentation, seek out responses from subject matter experts and provide responses to technical tasks aligned to the required work.
  • Take lead over various projects to ensure that all the mechanical engineering requirements are captured and met. 
  • Perform testing, analysis and acceptance after modifications and overhauls and assist contractors with commissioning activities. 
  • Conduct quality audits in accordance with current standards. 
  • Liaise with technical trade teams to identify and resolve rollingstock issues. 

This role is predominately based in a Brisbane CBD location, with some travel to site requirements on an irregular basis.  

You will bring:

  • Strong mechanical engineering technical knowledge within design, overhaul and modification/repair of rollingstock or similar heavy vehicle/machinery.
  • High level of skill in the development of Scopes of Work and associated project documentation. 
  • Experience within a mechanical engineering role, performing work that involves managing projects, investigations, testing, problem solving, overhauls and modifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to clearly communicate both in written and oral forms and translate technical terms to non-technical audiences. 
  • Ability to work across multiple stakeholders who are responsible for differing stages of rollingstock modification and overhaul projects. 

Qualifications:

At the time of application, you will hold Engineers Australia recognised Bachelor Engineering – Mechanical or company approved equivalent, as well as unrestricted Australian working eligibility/visa.
