 Senior Grid Engineer

 

The Role

We are seeking a talented and highly motivated candidate with proven grid connection experience, strong stakeholder engagement skills with AEMO/NSP and a solid technical understanding of the NER rule. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to the Development Team and broader organisation for various Wind, Solar and Battery sites including: 
  • Preliminary analysis of grid data to assess connection locations and capacity for early-stage developments.
  • Liaison with Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), network service providers, OEM and technical consultants throughout the grid connection process.
  • Manage PSSE and PSCAD models and grid connection studies.
  • Provide design inputs to grid connection, substation and collector network design aspects of projects.
  • Support the procurement team on grid and electrical BoP engineering contract negotiation. 
  • Assist the construction team with technical grid connection issues including leading generator registration, loss factor analysis and assessment of market rule change impacts.
  • Contribute to the technology assessment and selection for Wind, Solar and Battery projects. 
  • Support Business Development activities including preparation of tenders, provide input to financial models and travel inter-state to attend meetings and conferences as required.
  • Assisting the Grid Engineering Manager with the provision of written material and presentations regarding technical issues for inclusion in board papers, workshops, investment memorandums and permitting documents as required.

Requirements

About you

You will have:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ work experience. 
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Electrical).
  • Strong understanding of the National Electricity Market and the transmission system that underpins its operations.
  • Experience in the connection of projects to the NEM through the AEMO registration process.
  • Capability to assess changes and identify opportunities within the NEM.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory framework imposed by the NER.
  • Experience in connection application, generator registration and negotiation of generator performance standards.
  • Experience in commissioning generating assets including Hold Point testings.
  • Prior grid connection engineering experience on the NEM (wind farm registration will be highly valued).
  • Generator and power systems modelling experience – wind farm modelling highly valued with PSSE and/or PSCAD and/or Power Factory.
  • Experience using PSS/E and/or PSCAD and/or PowerFactory simulation tools.
  • Solid understanding of the generator connection process in the National Electricity Market.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in plain English to internal and external stakeholders.
