The Victorian Government has set out the requirements for the state’s vocational training providers with a new statement of expectations.

State Minister for Skills, Peter Hall, said that the new Statement of Expectations: Principles and obligations for government-contracted providers in Victoria would establish a baseline of integrity in the training system.

“The Statement isn’t about creating another set of rules or contractual guidelines – it’s a set of principles that should guide registered training organisations and shape their approach to students,” Mr Hall said.

Speaking at an Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET) symposium Mr Hall said that while the majority of training providers behaved ethically, the State Government was ‘raising the bar’ for the industry as a whole.

As outlined in the Statement, training providers will be required to demonstrate a commitment to serving the public interest, be responsive to the needs of Government and the community and demonstrate accountability, transparency, integrity and fairness.

The Statement of Expectations was shaped through consultation with training providers, in partnership with ACPET.
