The New South Wales regulatory tribunal is looking to review the state’s tow truck industry, and wants interested parties to lodge their views.

The NSW Independent Pricing & Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) is looking at several key ideas, including;

  • a licensing scheme that imposes requirements on tow truck operators, tow trucks and drivers, which can be enforced by RMS and Police
  • maximum fees and charging arrangements that apply to accident towing services for both light and heavy vehicles (prices for trade towing services are not regulated)

IPART is part way through this review, and has released a fact sheet and draft report on its recommendations so far.

The draft report contains 69 recommendations on fees and licensing.

IPART says it invites all parties to make submissions in response to the draft recommendation, and that people can respond to any or all of the recommendations or make other comments they think IPART should hear.
