Tasmania courts offshore oil and gas sector
Tasmania has rolled out a publicity campaign aimed at courting large-scale oil and gas industry players by selling the state as a prime base for offshore oil and gas operations.
The Tasmania Delivers brochure was launched by State Economic Development Minister, David O’Byrne, to encourage oil and gas operators to use the state as a base and ‘make the most of local service and support industries’.
The Government's priority is creating jobs and opportunities by diversifying our economy and playing to Tasmania's natural strengths," Mr O'Byrne said.
"That's what our Economic Development Plans are all about, backed-up by support programs like the Tasmanian Government Innovation and Investment Fund.
"Those natural strengths include our resourceful manufacturing and marine service industry.
"The lucrative oil and gas sector is no stranger to Bass Strait and other local waters. Those exploration and drilling operations all need efficient, reliable support services to avoid disruptions and meet strict environmental protections.”
