Poll shows strong support for Tasmanian wind farm
More than half of the respondents to a recent poll said they were in favour of a proposed $2 billion wind farm in Tasmania.
Reports say of the 878 valid responses, 516 were in favour of moving ahead with a feasibility study on the possible project site on King Island in the state’s north-west.
The survey asked whether a 2 year feasibility study should be undertaken, with 59 per cent of respondents in favour, Hydro Tasmania says they are considering the results with a view to moving ahead. The industry body had previously said it wouldn’t go on with less than 60 per cent of the population in favour.
As a freely available source of renewable energy wind power is not without its critics, but new designs and projects such as this indicate the wind power movement is not just a passing breeze.
