The Australian government has announced the appointment of three commissioners to lead Infrastructure Australia for the next five years. 

Mr Tim Reardon, Ms Clare Gardiner-Barnes, and Dr Gillian Miles have been named as the new commissioners, tasked with guiding the country’s top advisory body on national infrastructure.

Tim Reardon, who brings a background in engineering and extensive public sector experience, will officially assume the role of Chief Commissioner on 1 October 2024. 

In the interim, Clare Gardiner-Barnes will serve as Acting Chief Commissioner. Gardiner-Barnes has been a part of Infrastructure Australia previously, and her experience includes roles at Infrastructure NSW and Transport for NSW. 

Dr Gillian Miles, set to commence her term on 8 October 2024, has held senior positions such as CEO and Commissioner of the National Transport Commission, as well as Head of Transport for Victoria.

According to the government, the new leadership team will enhance Infrastructure Australia's capabilities in areas such as transport, engineering, and regional infrastructure. Infrastructure Australia’s mandate was redefined following a 2022 independent review, which called for the organisation to have a clearer purpose and a stronger role as a national adviser.

The government has also indicated plans to establish a new Advisory Council to support the commissioners.
