International recruitment specialist Hays has launched its major project jobs website where jobseekers can view positions in major oil, gas, resources and mining and energy and construction projects in Western Australia.

Commenting on the site’s launch Simon Winfield, Senior Regional Director of Hays in Western Australia, said: “With 57 major projects underway or in the pipeline in the oil & gas, resource & mining, energy and construction industries, Western Australia will create a record number of major projects jobs. Already Western Australia shows the greatest jobs market strength of all states and territories in Australia.

“Given the size and scale of upcoming major projects, the demand for skills will only continue to rise. This boom cycle is expected to be even bigger than the last, when the number of mining jobs alone peaked at 73,500 in mid-2008. So we know that demand for staff is going to be huge.

According to Hays, a major project is defined as an extremely large-scale investment project, typically costing more than AUS$100 million and attracting a lot of public attention because of substantial impacts on communities, the environment and budgets. Major projects include major transport infrastructure, resources and mining projects, power plants, dams, wastewater projects, special Economic Zones, oil and natural gas extraction projects and buildings.
