Downer wins NSW rail work
Engineering firm Down EDI has announced it has been awarded a new rail infrastructure tender in New South Wales, valued at over $90 million
Transport for NSW awarded the company the Gosford Passing Loops Project, which is one of four projects that form part of the broader Naorthern Sydney Freight Corridor (NSFC) Program.
Jointly funded by Federal and State Governments, the initative will aim to improve the capacity and reliability of freight trains on the 155 kilometre stretch of rail between North Strathfield and Newcastle.
Downer will be responsible for the design and construction of two new passing rail loops between Gosford and Narara. The scope of works includes:
- Earthworks
- Civil construction in association with Robson Civil Projects including:
- Construction of two kilometres of track on both loops
- Construction of six new bridges and retaining wall
- Associated signalling and electrification works
- Commissioning.
The works are expected to be completed by mid-2015.
