Air traffic award marks meaningful education
Airservices Australia has been recognised for excellence and innovation in air traffic control training.
The Transport and Logistics Industry Skills Council's (TLISC) 2015 Innovation and Excellence in Workforce Development Award has gone to the government-owned company this week.
Airservices was honoured for its unique curriculum, world-class facilities and expert training.
The company trains clients in specialist areas including the Diploma of Aviation (Air Traffic Control), supporting the organisation’s workforce of more than 1000 air traffic controllers across Australia.
Accepting the award on behalf of Airservices, general manager Linda Spurr said: “I am very proud to be part of an organisation that values training so highly. This award highlights the commitment to training by Airservices to ensure operations are delivered safely and efficiently”.
The company has recently been collaborating with the Department of Defence on changes to its end-to-end training framework,
Airservices says this has led to improved, flexible and tailored learning solutions that continue to deliver competent and job-ready graduates whose training complies with requirements.
Airservices has invested more than $90 million on training aids, including specialised air traffic control simulators and the world class Hot Fire Training Ground in Melbourne used to train future aviation rescue fire fighters.
A recent graduate of the Airservices Learning Academy, Guy Lewin, was also recognised as a finalist for the 2015 TLISC ‘Trainee of the Year Award.’
